Built on the feeling of community created in the theater, the WashU Cinema graphic identity draws from vintage cinema aesthetics and the physical qualities of the film strip to draw communities together.





After completing research on the defining principles of WashU Cinema through discussions and surveys with the current team and frequent attendees, I formulated three design directions based on the mix of cinematographic symbols and community togetherness. 



The design process relied heavily on the understanding that assets needed to work both digitally and in print so after choosing the design system I made sure to implement high contrast typography and strong visual hierarchy to make sure designs would be legible and engaging at both scales.  


Spring 26



As the second run of this design system, I took my previous knowledge of collateral production and pushed WashU Cinema into 3D with custom modeled film strips depicting real scenes from each of our films. 


Fall 25



Fall 2025 offered special opportunities as I had the opportunity to collaborate with the team at MGM Studios for the St. Louis premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s After the Hunt and participate in the design of our merch. We also expanded our graphic system to include large scale digital sign graphics for greater cross campus reach.
